Betterment and the Rise of Robo-Advisors

I have referred a bunch of you over to Betterment.com for investment account and this just came up in the CFOAndrew Slack Channel. Here is a great article/video from the founder. So many of his points tie out to why I do what I do, which is why I love it.

I love the answer to the question at 1:27 – what is the future of FinTech.

Most Notable:
All major entrenched players are now moving to launch “robo-advisors” or to acquire all the current players.

“Once in a generation chance to break through and actually make change.”

So many people are trying to learn everything there is to know about investing – primarily because they don’t trust the entrenched players (and they shouldn’t). But I think this is the wrong approach. That is why I love his metaphor about the self driving car – it doesn’t do any good for us to make more tools available to individuals so they can “DIY”. That is not an efficient use of most people’s time. These DIY tools that we see now are just the stepping stone to the “self-driving car” that will hopefully be the future.

So, if you are unsure of where to go and feel like planning for retirement is a task you will never be able to handle, then you should spend the time learning about these types of systems  That and learning to TRUST again – let Betterment do what it does and don’t worry too much about it.
